There are lots of things I wish I did more often with Pickle. Being a stay at home Mom, you’d think I’d have all the time in the world to go and feed the ducks, or to spend a morning getting creative with paints or cosy afternoons baking lovely little cookies or fairy cakes. But in reality, we hardly ever do these things. I honestly don’t know where the time goes… and although it doesn’t really take very long to whip up a batch of scones, the thought of the clean up afterwards makes it seem like a much bigger (and off-putting) task. I think that’s why we usually spend so much time outdoors – not only is the fresh air good for us, but unless we have an absolute disaster, it usually doesn’t involve hours spent cleaning up afterwards. We all know cleaning is not my forte…
I have surprised myself in many ways as a parent. I vividly remember sitting in Jamie’s Italian with Katie from Katie Pix when I was about four months pregnant talking about how I wouldn’t pick my baby up at night if they cried because I’d just be making a rod for my own back. Pregnant-Me would be eye-rolling at Actual-Parent-Me for my bedsharing, night-nursing, cuddle-to-sleep attachment parenting style! I can’t believe I thought I’d be wishing away those first precious baby months because I was much more excited about going to feed the ducks and playing in the park. In so many ways, I’m the opposite kind of parent than I thought I would be. And lately, I’ve been doing another thing I always thought I’d never succumb to as a parent… I’ve started buying into children’s TV merchandising. And not only am I buying into it, but I’m getting genuinely excited about it too. I literally squealed with excitement when I saw some teeny tiny Paw Patrol slippers in Morrisons last week.

Whilst I’m definitely not that fussy when it comes to food, there are certain things I’d rather not eat if given the choice. There are certainly particular foods I avoid buying at the supermarket, but I’m trying to make a bit of a concerted effort to make sure Pickle still gets to try and eat these ingredients. Just because I don’t like them, doesn’t mean he won’t either, and it’s unfair to not introduce him to certain tastes and textures. So today, I’m sharing the foods I really need to make more of an effort with.
