  • Happy Holly surrounded by mist in the Yorkshire Dales wearing Regatta Outdoors

Outdoors by Kilnsey Crag with Blacks and The North Face

It’s now less than a month until my Mom and I are doing our charity Snowdon walk, starting at midnight and hitting the summit in time for sunrise (hopefully). I’ve obviously been doing more walking in preparation, and so when Blacks invited us to join them for a day with The North Face by Kilnsey Crag, in the Yorkshire Dales, it was the perfect excuse to fit another walk in (and, as it turned out, become totally inspired for future adventures).

    Kilnsey Crag

Getting to Kilnsey involved a two and a half hour drive up to Manchester, before boarding a coach there to take us the remainder of the way – a further hour and a half. As the coach got closer to the Yorkshire Dales, the sound of the rain battering on the windscreen was a little daunting. Thankfully, although it wasn’t clear skies when we arrived, the downpour had reduced to a bit of heavy drizzle, and we were just excited to see what awaited us. read more

  • A Day on the Grand Union Canal

I love how our memory works. I love that a smell or sound can immediately transport you back to a specific moment in time. It was a conscious decision that I kept the same album playing on loop a few weeks ago when we joined my parents for the day on their canal boat holiday. I wanted to have an easy way to transport myself back to it, and I’m so glad I did. There’s one particular song that makes me feel quite emotional (in a good way!) about our day, and how seeing my family work together made me feel…

My parents are no strangers to the canal, having been on at least two previous canal boat holidays that I know of. Over the Easter holidays, they booked an almost-too-good-to-be-true deal they saw and seized the opportunity to spend a week exploring the Grand Union Canal, and then (much to my delight) invited us to join them on the Bank Holiday Monday. read more

  • Pickle holding his baby chick

Spring Spectacular at Hatton Country World

This is a review of the Spring Spectacular event at Hatton Country World, which ran from 13 – 28 April 2019, our visit was organised through Coventry Bloggers.

Last week, I booked Tuesday off work more out of necessity than anything else (my Dad usually looks after Pickle on a Tuesday but they were instead having a wonderful time on a canal boat holiday!), and decided it was the perfect day for a bit of farm based fun. We’re no strangers to Hatton Country World, although our visits are usually during school term weekdays to make the most of the quieter times and often reduced entrance fees, so I know we’d be almost guaranteed to have a lovely time. read more

  • Laughing at tea pouring during afternoon tea

Afternoon Tea at Laura Ashley The Tea Room, Solihull

This is a review of Laura Ashley The Tea Room, organised through Coventry Bloggers.

This month, Jim and I celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary. Although I try not to buy into the hype about celebrations like this (I’ve learned from the past… if I get my hopes up for grand romantic gestures, I usually end up disappointed – Jim is amazing at a lot of things, but being romantic isn’t generally one of them!), I do think it’s good for us to have a reason to prioritse spending quality time together. It’s a guilt-free excuse (I know, we shouldn’t need an excuse but the pschology and reasoning behind that is a blog post for another day!), and this year, we thought what better way to toast to another year of wedded life than a good old afternoon tea in the town where we legally became man and wife. read more

  • Walking out of the hotel in Marks & Spencer clothing

Finding #MyMarksFave at Marks and Spencer Longbridge

This is a paid collaboration with Marks & Spencer.

During our recent shopping trip to Marks and Spencer in Longbridge, my Mom and I got talking about the future for fashion shopping. We’d planned an afternoon treating ourselves in M&S, picking up some bits and pieces for the upcoming summer months and enjoying a cuppa in the Cafe afterwards: a proper Mother-Daughter laugh-filled day out. It was SO MUCH FUN, although we couldn’t help but speculate whether these kind of trips had a shelf life. In a world that is becoming increasingly digitised, and with news of the ever-declining high street constantly ringing in our ears, we were worried about our future fashion purchases being solely online based. read more

  • Pickle at the Ice Age exhibition at Botanical Gardens

Ice Age: The Lost Kingdom at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

I’ve a lot of love for the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It’s such a beautiful expanse in amidst our bustling city, offering lots for little ones to explore, a brilliant park area and so much gorgeous photography opportunities. This week, we ventured down with some friends to see the new Ice Age exhibition: a trail of over 40 installations of animated life-sized beasts, including a Sabre Tooth Tiger, Mastodon and the centre piece Woolly Mammoth.

    Our Day Out

I’d first heard about the Ice Age exhibition from a new friend at work. Our boys are both very similar in age and she had planned on going, sending me the details as she correctly guessed that it sounded up my street! A few days later, I had an email invitation to check out a preview of the attraction, and I knew just who would make for the perfect companions on our trip. read more
